Title: Collect switched network data
Post by: Anonymous on November 18, 2003, 07:46:22 PM
Hi!

I'm looking for command line utility for linux for collect list of IP addresses (optionally with resolved DNS names) responded (online) in LAN with mac addresses. Network has 3Com Managed Switces

DNS, IP, MAC

i made a bash script

LAN_AND_NET=$1

NMAP_PATH=`which nmap`
ARP_PATH=`which arp`
GREP_PATH=`which grep`
TR_PATH=`which tr`
CUT_PATH=`which cut`

$NMAP_PATH -sP $LAN_AND_NET > /dev/null

$ARP_PATH -n | $GREP_PATH " C " | $TR_PATH -s " " | $CUT_PATH -f1,3 -d" " > arpcache
--------
it works fine for subnet 24 but for subnet 16 (192.168.0.0) it takes aprox. 20 minutes. arp cache is empty  :(

it would be very nice from you if you suggest me some urls or hints

Thank You!

There are some tools like that under...

Title: Still looking for that tool ...

i'm using nmap in my script, but this seems to be not enough :(
the most important thing is collect pair: IP & MAC
nmap collects IP but NOT MAC, i should grab them from arp cache, but arp cache stays temporarily (for limited time) avaiable. For larger networks (255.255.0.0) scans it takes ~20 minutes

perhaps i'm looking into wrong tool?

Title: SENDMAIL
Post by: greenie on May 08, 2004, 01:49:18 AM
I've used your available resources and successfully built a functional webserver with Perl, SSL, MySQL, Apache2....
The next big hurdle is SENDMAIL.  I'm having nothing but trouble with configuration.  Can you recommend any reference resources?
Thank you in advance...

I would recommend getting rid of sendmail and getting qmail...

If you are looking for something easier...

http://www.exim.org/
or
http://www.postfix.org/

...thats, ask me any questions about our web-server suite, or guides.

As far as specific programming, my knowledge is limited.
