Title: New devside.net website is up...
Post by: admin on January 09, 2007, 10:08:34 PM
I've put up the new site. Letme know what you think, what needs to be improved upon, and if you see anything odd...

The formating of the guides/articles is a bit off.

Nice banner and nice new look too, but not sure about functions yet ;-)
BTW, do you happen to have small wds banner (458x60) for people to put up on their sites?

Man that's clean. Very sharp. I second that. I took the your old image and photoshopped it for my site. Whenever you've got your new banner swatch for sites available blog it please.

Thanks

I've put up a corner banner that you can see on the main site (http://www.devside.net/) (reload a few time if its not showing up).

Right now, this banner is part of the background and is not clickable, will not show in right-click properties, etc... But has the effect of being extremely easy to integrate into a site...

Inside the css body tag you would add...
Quote
body { background: transparent url(http://www.devside.net/img/corner_banner.gif) top right no-repeat; }

Or if your do not use a a css file...
Quote
<body style="background: transparent url(http://www.devside.net/img/corner_banner.gif) top right no-repeat;">

Thats it.

The image background is transparent but the shadow effect is not. Something I'll correct later, it looks good on a white background for the time being. I think an alpha channel will correct this but IE version less than 7 cannot handle it.

For this background corner banner method, a linkback can also be achived with a little more work...

Under CSS file...
Quote
a#corner_banner
{
    position: absolute;
    right: 0px;
    top: 0px;
    display: block;
    height: 110px;
    width: 110px;
    text-decoration: none;
}

Under index.php/html...
Quote
<body><div><a id="corner_banner" href="http://www.devside.net/"></a></div>

While this is a nice banner and is implemented in a different way, it will not work for sites that expand to the full width of the window. Its also only for the hard-core devside.net userbase.

Another version, non background, no shadow, clean.

(http://www.devside.net/img/corner_banner_n.gif)

HTML...

Quote
<div>
<img id="wd_banner" src="http://www.devside.net/img/corner_banner_n.gif" ismap usemap="#wd_banner" alt="">
<map name="wd_banner"><area shape=poly coords="105,0,200,95,200,180,20,0" href="http://www.devside.net/" alt="DeveloperSide.NET"></map>
</div>

CSS...

Quote
img#wd_banner
{
position: absolute;
right: 0px;
top: 0px;
display: block;
height: 180px;
width: 200px;
border: 0;
z-index: 999;
}

This one will float over the site, which can also be made to float under by changing the z-index to 0 and making sure the rest of the site is at least a 1. And it uses an imagemap for a very clean href.
