Open the command prompt [run cmd.exe], within it change to directory that the mysql binary is in, and type 'mysql -uroot -p', enter password, if it does not allow you in than that's not the set password.

There is no password set for user root with the default mysql install.

Apparently so, cause it keeps on saying that error.  This is so confusing, I really need 2 get Mysql up to. This is making me mad.

Here is wat i did:

1. Choose typical setup
2. then click install
3. Once installed, i clicked next, and next again
4. then i checked the 'configure mysql server now', then clicked finish
5. i clicked next and chose standard configuration
6. Checked the install as windows service box, and from the drop down menu, i chose Mysql, and i checked the 'launch my server automatically' box. then hit next
7. I checked the Modify Security Settings box, and i typed in 'root' for both password boxes, and i checked 'enable root access from remote machines' box, and hit next
8. Then i clicked execute.

and now it says:  Error Nr. 1045
Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'(using password:NO)

what did I do wrong here?

But when I run the Mysql Server Config Wizard, and i type in root for all 3 of the boxes, it says

denied for 'user'@'localhost' (Using password: YES)

He is not using out Server Suite, just some standalone mysql installation... It has no password for root set.

The only thing I can think of is you already have some other instance of mysql installed, that had a password set for user root.
