Please help, I do have the Professional Edition.  I would rather just re-install after the problem is fixed so I am not chasing ghosts later due to a config file that is pointing to the D drive...

/ Installing a Let's Encrypt setup...
on: June 02, 2018, 06:27:45 PM
Any chance on a tutorial on how to implement a Let's Encrypt setup for this suite?  I have no issue making my own certs for my own personal sites, but it would be nice to be able to have a 'legitimate' cert installed so people do not get all the warnings when one uses a self signed cert when using a site that 'other than personal friends' might use.

Thanks,
Bob

/ Installed on Default C drive, but all config files point to D drive?
on: June 02, 2018, 06:21:48 PM
I have had a test server setup for quite some time.  I decided to change some drives around since the original install and decided to go ahead and do a full removal and re-install of the suite.  All went rather smooth, install went great and when I brought up the 'Controller', it shows both MySQL & Apache stopped, which I found weird.  I hit the 'Start Server or Service' button, but nothing, and when trying to start Apache, a small window opens up with some options, one of which is to try a test of the install.  I click on that option and I get a syntax error (note, at this point I have not touched anything).  The error also states what line and what config file the syntax error is on - I go to this particular file and notice that instead of file paths pointing to areas on the C drive, they all point to areas on the D drive.  I look at the D drive and there is nothing installed on it.  I look further and every config file points to file paths on the D drive.
Now, I have no idea how this happened as there is no option (at least that I know of) to put the suite on D Drive, and I am installing from the C drive anyway.  How can I fix this?  I have deleted the entire install, at least that I can find (on the C drive), tried another install and same thing, all paths point to a file on the D drive.
Please note, that I have used this suite without issue since ~2013 as I feel it is the best suite to install on a Windows machine, and I am currently using it on a Win10Pro install. I feel comfortable modifying the registry if necessary.
Please assist and thanks in advance,
Bob

thanks for the info.  i was going to try it out w/ the basic setup you give us in the suite for the ssl vhosts.  i tried it once and for some reason it took me to my 1st host even though i put in the address for the 2nd, but it at least got me to my machine :)

The 1st example you posted will not work as SSL Virtual Hosts have nothing to do with Name based Virtual Hosts.

On the 2nd example '_default_', in this case, means any IP not yet picked up by another VirtualHost... Your 1st '_default_' Virtual Host will always be used. You need to get rid of the _default_ in both blocks and use your IP address.

would this be the local machine's ip or the external ip?

i have seen this but haven't got it working yet -

Code:
  NameVirtualHost *:443

    <VirtualHost *:443>
        ServerName www.domain.com
        SSLEngine on
        SSLCertificateFile /path/to/www.domain.com.cert
        SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/to/www.domain.com.key

        DocumentRoot /www/vhosts/domain.com
   </VirtualHost>

   <VirtualHost *:443>
        ServerName www.domain.org
        SSLEngine on
        SSLCertificateFile /path/to/www.domain.com.cert
        SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/to/www.domain.com.key

        DocumentRoot /www/vhosts/domain.org
   </VirtualHost>

and also this using different ports -

Code:
   <VirtualHost _default_:443>
        ServerName www.domain.com
        SSLEngine on
        SSLCertificateFile /path/to/www.domain.com.cert
        SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/to/www.domain.com.key

        DocumentRoot /www/vhosts/domain.com
   </VirtualHost>

   <VirtualHost _default_:444>
        ServerName www.domain.org
        SSLEngine on
        SSLCertificateFile /path/to/www.domain.org.cert
        SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/to/www.domain.org.key

        DocumentRoot /www/vhosts/domain.org
   </VirtualHost>

things have been running well.  i have noticed that the modsec_debug and modsec_audit log files are growing rather large.  is there a particular program to view them with.  when i open them up in notepad it is "jumbled up", not like a normal log file that i am use to seeing.  also, is it normal for the files to be growing so quick?  i have only been running this machine for ~15days and the 2 files are ~22MB and the https server does not get much action, but is running a forum, if that matters.

thanks again,
bob

excellent, looks like the:
  <Directory "/www/http/BF2Hardware">
    Order Allow,Deny
     allow from All
  </Directory>

did it :)

thanks in advance :D

actually, none of my vh work, so here is one - it is currently commented out as the https site is running, but as soon as i uncomment the vhost config file in the httd.conf, i get issues.  my isp blocks port 80, so i run regular sites on 6583 and the ssl site on 443, which they don't block.

<VirtualHost *:6583>
    DocumentRoot "/www/http/BF2Hardware"
    ServerName bf2hardware.sytes.net:6583
    ErrorLog logs/BF2Hardware/BF2Hardware-error_log
    CustomLog logs/BF2Hardware/BF2Hardware-access_log combined
</VirtualHost>

when i type in http://bf2hardware.sytes.net:6583, i get a pop up box asking for u/p, which takes me to the https site and i have noticed that the modsec_audit and modsec_debug are growing huge - modsec_audit is 6.5MB and the other is 1.5MB and the vh has been uncommented for a total of maybe a couple hours and i have been the only one hitting it...

i have tried document root as the entire absolute path, with quotes, the way it is now, all the same result.  this is on a xp pro machine

thanks in advance

does apache 2.2 handle vh different than apache 2.0.x?  i am using the same setup and still having issues.  w/ apache 2.0.x i could put a folder anywhere, and list it in the vhost setup and location and all would be fine, but now, this does not work this way.  i have uncommendted out the vhost.conf in the httpd.conf file and setup the vhosts like i did in apache 2.0.x and still no go.

ok so basicly you want to host multi webs inside 1 shell.

what you have to edit is your virtual hosts. make it link to usr\www\webroot\"sitename"

and for the secure server leave it as user\www\webroot\https\

make the HTTPS folder only avilible from the HTTPS website and the others from the "sitename"directorys.

I currently run 29 virtual hosts. 9 because of people that want to use proxy to bypass schools filters. and the others are mainly my game sites and my personal things. like if im at school I want to access a file in my computer I can. :P so yeah. its mostly that you have to edit in your virual hosts. I cant point out where it is because im not using a windows comp. Linux is teh shiznets and also the perffered hosting type computers. so yeah.  make the virtual hosts. set them to your preferred directories and bam you have multi webs

i have used virtual hosts for quite some time, but when mixing https and http sites i always have issues.  all the sites end up going to the https site even if the virtual site has an entirely different path.  didn't have luck with the alias portion either...

i have done some reading and it appears that https needs its own ip, so should i add a nic just for that site and let the rest of the machine run off the other nic?  i just don't understand what i am doing wrong so that it doesn't work with both types of sites...

i have it setup so the https portion is in the webroot folder.  this portion is working nicely w/ a smf forum chugging along perfectly - all within a ssl envelope ;).  now i would like to create a http folder outside of the webroot folder to put plain sites in.  this is becoming a bit more of a challenge....please assist.  i really do not want to change the smf config in the webroot folder if at all possible.

thanks in advance for your time and extensive knowledge,
bob :)
