Hello,

Due to problems with my linux machine i had to reinstall the whole operationg system...
when i installed openssl it seem to have installed correctly but there isn't too much in the usr/local/ssl/bin folder...
the only 2 files that are in there is c_rehash* and openssl*

any ideas why theres notihng in usr/local/ssl/bin..

What else are you expecting?

Under .../ssl/bin there should only be two files, the main 'openssl' binary and a Perl 'c_rehash' script.

The lib files are under /usr/local/ssl/lib, not /usr/local/ssl/bin

libcrypto.a
libcrypto.so
libcrypto.so.0
libcrypto.so.0.9.7
libssl.a
libssl.so
libssl.so.0
libssl.so.0.9.7

Quote from: "admin"
The lib files are under /usr/local/ssl/lib, not /usr/local/ssl/bin

libcrypto.a
libcrypto.so
libcrypto.so.0
libcrypto.so.0.9.7
libssl.a
libssl.so
libssl.so.0
libssl.so.0.9.7

please explain this:

.../openssl-0.9.8]# ./config

where do we put this and is it a command?
--prefix=/usr/local/ssl
[this is the default installation location]

where do we put this and is it a command?
shared
[in addition to the usual static libraries, create shared libraries]

where do we put this and is it a command?
zlib-dynamic
[like "zlib", but has OpenSSL load the zlib library dynamically when needed]
.../openssl-0.9.8]# ./config -t
[display guess on system made by ./config]
.../openssl-0.9.8]# make
.../openssl-0.9.8]# make test
.../openssl-0.9.8]# make install

Like this...
./config --prefix=/usr/local/ssl shared zlib-dynamic
from the base openssl dir.
