I am having problems with .net sessions. When apache starts my .net app (ported from an IIS server) works fine for the first client. Session is set and everything is fine. Every other client (or same client if the session is ended/destroyed) will not set a session.

Any ideas? Is it mod_aspdotnet, apache, or .NET?

Here are a few example apache settings:

Listen 0.0.0.0:80
NameVirtualHost 0.0.0.0

<VirtualHost 0.0.0.0:80>
    DocumentRoot "C:/somepath"
    ServerName intranet.example.com:80
    UseCanonicalName On
</VirtualHost>

Its definitely not Apache, probably not mod_aspdotnet (as it only proxies to the ASP.NET engine), so chances are it might have something to do with the code. Where is the session data set? In files?

There is nothing out of the ordinary with how I am using sessions.

I have also found that I can not set php sessions also.

I don't know what I am doing wrong but it must be something with my configuration or network since I have tried this on three machines now and get the exact same results.

Just some ideas:

  • Does php without sessions work?
  • Cookies enabled in your browser?
  • Do sessions work when a test.php file is in Apache's DocumentRoot?
  • How far from a default installation are you?  Lots of tweaks?
  • Try run phpinfo() (if you can) and look for php.ini.  Check that php.ini for docroot.
  • Disable mod_aspdotnet ad see how it fares.

It's not a PHP problem, it's a mod_aspdotnet problem. I think  it has to do with how our network is set up. I am going to  try and run apache under a different user who has access to network resources.
