what's the normal amount of httpd.exe processes that run under a normal installation of the package?  I recently checked the task managers process list and it looks like I have 2 instances httpd.exe running.  Is this normal?

Also, what would cause multiple instances of the httpd.exe to show up?

Under win32 one parent httpd.exe create one child httpd.exe process. That child process creates many threads, each thread handling a request. Its all perfectly normal. I think there is a little more info about this in the 'apache performance tuning' article I put up on the main site.
