I'm totally new to this and there really isnt instructions to come with it. my controller window shows all areas as "not installed"? how do I install everything to make it work?
I use a netgear router and I'm not sure how to set it up for outside access.
I am running windows vista, I have configured my firewall to accept httpd.exe, but I'm not sure about the rest.
help please

Everything should have been installed by default. If it has not, something on your system prevented it. Perhaps you should uninstall, log back in with an account that has administrative privileges, and install once more. It has nothing to do with your router or firewall at this time.

Also take a look at the Suite Guide located under C:\www\docs\suite-guide\index.html

Lets try to install one Service manually and see what errors we get...

Run 'cmd.exe', this will open up a command line window.

Within type...
cd C:\www\Apache22\bin
httpd -k install
httpd -k start

What is the output?

What are the contents of file C:\www\Apache22\logs\error.log ?

ok. i copied the cd C:\www\Apache22\bin
then i typed httpd -k install and it says:
error apache2.2:service is already installed

then i did the start command and the following:
syntax error on line 163 of c:/www.apache22/config/httpd.config:syntax error on line 100 of c:/www.apache22/config/extra/httpd-vhost.config: include directory c:/www.apache22/config/extra/vhost/_static/smarthost.com  not found

i would take a screenshot but i cant load the pic on here since i dont have a way to do it

That is very odd.

Did you copy out that error message, or did you type it manually? Because there is no C:\www.Apache22 directory [it's C:\www\Apache22] and all the config files are *.conf, not *.config

But what is really weird is that "c:/www.apache22/config/extra/vhost/_static/smarthost.com" is referring to something that is only in the Professional Edition of the Suite... Nothing like that is under Community Edition 2.0.

And if you want you can email me the pic: admin@devside.net

I haven't received an email yet but is there anything under file C:\www\Apache22\logs\error.log and does URL 'http://localhost/' bring anything up in your browser?

Also, try running the Controller app via right click, 'Run as Administrator'.

And here is something from the most common problems thread...
Quote
Windows Vista users who are NOT installing as user 'administrator':

The User Account Control (UAC) in Vista causes problems with the installation. You must disable UAC, install the Suite, and then re-enable UAC for everything to work.

I believe UAC is preventing everyone but 'administrator' from installing Services. I've also had reports of other users with the administrator privileges having problems.

I got your email, for some reason the spam filter got it.

Here is one way to disable UAC...
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/

Make sure to close down any cmd.exe windows, exit the controller, uninstall the Suite, delete the C:\www folder, and reboot.

For the Tomcat Service you need to install the Java Runtime and perform a few extra steps explained here...
http://www.devside.net/download/suite-guide/index.html#tomcat

The IIS Service is the Microsoft Web Server Service and has little to do with our package. It's included in just in case some user has it installed.

All your new domains should go under C:\www\vhosts\_dynamic

You can create domains and sub-domains in this area without having to configure Apache Virtual Hosts. Of course after creating one, you still need to resolve the domain name to an IP address -- use the Windows Hosts file menu item under the Controller.

[I'm going to move this thread to the PRO forum]
