Hi everyone first post here

I have been using webdevelopper on localhost to make my ecommerce website with magento.
It works great with vista, XP no problem at this address :

http://localhost/magento/index.php with magento placed under ../webapps

Now I have to place it over the net, well after spending all sunday long, I was not able to move magento from local to the net. The only thing I get is a white page, I am able to ping my website but it is not my fixed IP address that is responding. A tracert stops at the redirection of my registrar mays be be they have to do something as I setup the redirection sunday morning.

Or it must be something I do not understand with Vhosts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I build a new directory under host2.tld and made a host3.tld directory then made the httpd-vhost change and was able to see it working with a dummy file.

This is Virtual Host example for mywebsite.tld [\www\vhosts\mywebsite.tld]

1°) To put this website over the net do we have to place it under www/vhosts/ or do we have to do it under webapps (this is confusing).

I tried to understand the admin vhosts procedure on the forum but ......................

I wanted to test my internet speed connection before going to the V3.0 version as it looks easier on the video to setup

Otherwise I was able to see my website locally at my domain name.

regards

Can you post your C:\www\Apache22\conf\extra\httpd-vhosts.conf file?

Shure

Here it is:

<VirtualHost *:80>
   ServerName  mydomain.fr
   ServerAlias www.mydomain.fr
   DocumentRoot /www/vhosts/mydomain.fr
   ErrorLog /www/Apache22/logs/error.log

   <Directory "/www/vhosts/mydomain.fr">
      Options All
      AllowOverride All
      order allow,deny
      allow from all
   </Directory>
</VirtualHost>

Try placing the magento folder as C:\www\vhosts\mydomain.fr\ (and not under the webapps folder).

You can also skip the network issues by editing the Windows Hosts file and adding lines:
127.0.0.1 example.com
127.0.0.1 www.example.com

This way Windows will resolve the domain locally. It's a good way to test things.

Also check file C:\www\Apache22\logs\error.log, it should have more useful information.

Hi

I did that already and as I said under my first post I was able to see mywebsite, the only difference is that on windows host file I put my fixed IP.

I think my problem is the redirection at my registrar that will stay blocked until they take care of it. I get on a tracert

  3    56 ms    55 ms    55 ms  lille-6k-1-a5.routers.proxad.net [213.228.12.190
]
  4     *        *        *     Délai d'attente de la demande dépassé.
  5    59 ms    60 ms    58 ms  th2-crs16-1-be1003.intf.routers.proxad.net [212.
27.58.1]
  6     *        *        *     Délai d'attente de la demande dépassé.
  7    59 ms     *       60 ms  80g.p19-2-6k.routers.ovh.net [213.186.32.150]
  8    60 ms    58 ms     *     10g.p19-57-6k.routers.ovh.net [213.251.128.34]
  9    58 ms    60 ms    59 ms  redirect.ovh.net [213.186.33.5]

and stay blocked on N° 9 route (((ovh-myregistrar)))I suppose that the ovh.net redirection is suppose to route to my home server.

I still want to understand why is there vhosts and webapps folder, what difference ?

Sorry for all these questions ???

The webapps folder under v2.0 was used to keep the webapps scripts out of the main documentroot folders for security reasons.

This was later changed under v3.0 to only keep scripts that can be shared among all virtual hosts... such as a multi-site drupal installation, phpmyadmin, awstats, and so on.

The original method did not provide much security benefit, and added an additional configuration file to alias the URL to a folder.

It's best just to place your apps under the documentroot of the virtual host.

Hi

Thank you, now it is understood, sorry for late reply but it was sleeping time here in France. It must be your turn now.

Otherwise it is still not working, I created a glue registry at my registrar pointing to the server IP, but there is always a but.....

The panel ask to put the host name and IP like this:(just an example)

host : dns.mydomain.tld
IP: 123.123.25.25

But windows does not accept such names as host names because the "." it only accept letters, numbers and "-".

How can we solve this ??? as each time I create an entry it will add "mydomain.tld" after the chosen name

If this is in relation to your dns setup, try 'www' for the host name.

I have to redirect my domain name to my fixed IP provided by my ISP.

So in the manager of my registrar in the DNS Zone I changed :

.mydomain.tld    A    123.123.22.22 (IP from registrar)
to
.mydomain.tld    A    88.166.00.00 (My fixed IP provided by my ISP. (hope I did wright)

Now I am suppose to wait 24 to 48 hours

The changes usually propagate within a few hours. Sometimes within a few minutes depending on the TTL value for the domain.

Well it took something like more than 24 hours to get results, by checking on the internet it looks like it is the delay by the registrar OVH france.

That is way too long.

I was able to make it work, but now I decided to switch server and reinstalled web developper controller on another machine to train myself.

But now when I try to get to phpmyadmin at http://localhost/phpmyadmin/

I am redirected to my website with a 404 error : There was no 404 CMS page configured or found.

Any clue ???

Hi

Another question

How to redirect your website from your hoster to your local server, so database cannot be changed anymore (only on the new server) before all DNS servers are synchronized (+/- 72 hours). There must be a trick to do that.

I was not able to redirects to my fixed address from my hoster cpanel as :

When you type your fixed IP you get to localhost
But how do you redirect to your fixed IP a Vhost (tried but did not make it)

Otherwise I will point the database config from the hoster to the new server after I can change IP and wait for DNS propagation.
But I was not able not figure out how to acces a host with an IP like http://232.25.25.1/domain
