Hi admin and Jeorge,

Thanks for the help!

I read admin's sitckey about setting up php mail http://forums.devside.net/viewtopic.php?t=519 and I already had this line uncommented:

Quote

extension=php_gd2.dll

I have done what both of you had suggested (including NET STOP Apache2 & NET START Apache2) and my test.pl script is still telling me that GD is not installed.

Could the fact the devside suite uses GD2 be a reason for the test.pl telling me that GD isn't installed?

Thanks very much! :D

Yes. GD1 was removed a long time ago from php. But I do not think that is the problem. What is the shebang line (the 1st line) of test.pl?

Run these two scripts (save in files : file1.php and file2.php under webroot and access as http://localhost/file1.php and http://localhost/file2.php) and post the output here...

Code:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Code:

<?php var_dump(gd_info()); ?>

Your perl script is miscofigured or is checking for some older version.

Hello admin,

Thanks again for all your time, your commitment is outstanding! thanks :D

Could you tell me where the file "ppm.bin" is located?

I spoke to the admin of auction-script about the fact that I have GD2 running and I showed him the results of the scripts you gave me. Here is his response to my post:
Quote

PHP GD support is totally different than the Perl GD module.

To install GD2 Perl module he suggest I do the following:

Quote

Make sure you're connected to the internet.

Open a Command Prompt window.

Type "cd\perl", hit enter.

Type "PPM install GD", hit enter.

So I opend my command prompt window and "cd" to "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\gd-2.0.33>"

Then when I typed "cd\perl" I recieved this error message "The system can not find the specified path".

He then told me I need to find where the file "ppm.bin" is located. I looked for it but I wasn't able to find it; I looked in Perl, phpBB, Apache, etc.

He then suggested I change the directory from "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\gd-2.0.33>" to where Perl is installed:

Quote

If you have ActiveState's Perl installed, change directory to where Perl is installed. There should be a ppm.bat file there. Your Perl directory may be different, it depends on where you installed it.

After changing to the directory where ppm.bat is found, from the DOS prompt type "PPM install GD" and hit enter.

On my WinXP system, I do this:

1. Open a Command Prompt window.
2. Type "cd\perl\bin", hit Enter.
3. Type "PPM install GD", hit Enter.

Is this correct?

I am sorry for taking so much of your time, I must be pretty anonying by now :( .

Would you suggest I try to install ImageMagick instead?

Thanks so much for you wonderfull assistance and help

Short answer: ppm is not included in our package and if you need the Perl GD module, you might be able to install it yourself from CPAN.
http://forums.devside.net/viewtopic.php?t=142

http://search.cpan.org/dist/GD/
The README file explains the installation, you will need a compiler.

Hi admin,

Thanks for the links, they gave me lots of usefull information...but it seems this may be over my head :( .

I am willing to try and compile GD, I have never compiled anything before but I'll give it a try.

I won't ask you questions about compiling GD, etc as I know it's out of the scope of your bulletin board.

I do have two questions for you:

1. Should try to find and use a VC++ compiler?

2. Should I install ActivePerl along with PPM?

Thanks a million!

P.S. I think I'm going to check out ImageMagick as it might be easier for me to install.

Yes, preferably the same compiler that [our] perl was build with : VS.NET

You could install ActiveState over our package and add it to the path.

Hello admin,

I was told that ActiveState's ActivePerl comes standard with PPM. I was thinking of installing ActivePerl so I don't have to compile PPM; which I don't know how to do.

With PPM installed from ActivePerl I should be able to run install commands for GD2 without compiling PPM; correct?

I installed the static binary of ImageMagick 6.c.3-6-Q16. But, I was told I still have to install the Image::Magick perl module.
To install the Image::Magick perl module I'll have to compile it...back to square one.

I would rather use GD2 over ImageMagick; if I can use ActivePerl's PPM I would like uninstall ImageMagick and install GD2's module if possible.

Would it be wise to install ActivePerl and use the PPM included with it? Or would installing ActivePerl break your suite I have installed?

What do you think?

Thanks so very much :D

Just do not install it to C:\www\perl, somewhere else... And use the shebang line of your script to point to ActiveState's perl.exe. As long as those scripts are not ment for mod_perl, it should be fine, I think.

I'll add that if you over write mod_perl and other stuff will break... since a lot of liberary are installed to the current install

Hey admin,

Using Activeperl's PPM worked very well it seems, I didn't have to compile it myself...Thanks :D...

I donwloaded and installed Activeperl into:

Quote
C:\www\perlppm

Then I went to this site for GD repositories:

I found the url for GD:

Then I entered this command at the command prompt:

Quote

cd\www\perlppm\bin

And finally I entered the bribes command:

Quote

GD installed and I got a "success" text...then to make sure I tested it with the test.pl script and pointed it's Shebang to my Activeperl directory
Test.pl Shebang line:
Quote

#!C:/www/perlppm/bin/perl.exe

Thanks for heling me get this figured out :D
