Hi, I had Apache 2.0.48 workign on ym computer for a logn time, and then I switched my firewall from a Zone Alarm Pro to McAfee Personal Firewall+ and now the server fails to load... I get the error message

Can anyone help?

Yes.

McAfee and ZoneAlarm firewalls are notorious for preventing Apache and MySQL from binding to their sockets/ports.  Sometimes it is even not enough of just turning the firewall off, but a complete uninstall is necessary.

You can try opening up port 80, or letting Apache.exe bind to 0.0.0.0

If that functionality is not present under you’re firewall, your out of luck.

Either way, the problem in most cases is the firewall software itself messes up the Windows sockets interface or stack.  And that's not something you can fix yourself, aside from a complete uninstall.
