I hope somebody can point me to what is wrong here!

I compiled apache 2.0 with openSSL with MS Visual Sudio 6.0 on a Window 2K prof.  machine and encountered this error :

   'ml' is not recognized as internal or external command

when I execute this step: nmake -f  ms\ntdll.mak

Reading of the ntdll.mak file point to a macro definition of
ASM=ml /Cp /coff /c /Cx

what is ml?  Where can i get it / Did I miss something in the process ?

Thank you much !!!

ml.exe is the "Microsoft Linker", it is needed to build .asm files.

It does not come included under VS6, you will need to add some service pack or developer pack.  Search for VS6 and ml.exe or under google.

OR, do not use the MASM functions under OpenSSL, 'ms\do_masm'.  I think its 'ms\no_masm' instead.  The INSTALL.W32 file under openssl will explain this.

Exactly that was the problem. I read INSTALL.W32 in openSSL as suggested and use their recommended  assembler instead.

Thanks !
