Afternoon,

I'm currently running version 1.16 of the Devside.net Web Server Suite.

On top of this I want to install Sun ONE Active Server Pages 4.0.2 (formerly Chili!Soft ASP.)

As noted in a prior post, the following lines are added to the optimized DevSide.net httpd.conf file;

LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:\WINNT\System32\chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
CaspLib "C:\WINNT\System32\chiliasp"

Alias /caspsamp "C:\www\ASP\Samples"
Alias /caspdoc "C:\www\ASP\UserGuide"

AddHandler chiliasp .asp
AddHandler chiliasp .asa
AddHandler type-map var

My problem is that the resolution to that post does not work for me.

I can get the Sun ASP package to install and run over the original httpd.conf file, but then the extra bits that come with the DevSide suite do not run properly.

I cannot get the Sun ASP package to install and run with the optimized DevSide.net httpd.conf file, no matter how I tinker with it.

Does anyone have any experience of running both the DevSide WebServer Suite and Sun ASP.

I know that this is possible as I had the WebServer Suite, Sun ASP, and Perl running on a laptop some years ago, but I lost the .conf file.

Any help would be appreciated.

In advance..thanks..

"C:\www\ASP\Samples"
"C:\www\ASP\UserGuide"

You need to add two directory blocks for the above dirs and give access all permissions.  Aside from that, you can try using the old/default httpd.conf

Would you consider running ASP.NET instead?  There is a thread about setting it up.

Hiya,

Thanks for the quick reply.

For completeness, I'm posting my httpd.conf file here; with comments and annotations as to who (me), or what (Sun ONE asp) changed the file's contents.

I still cannot get the apache server to start, even though the Chili!Soft server seems to be starting correctly.

Also the last module to load within apache is the security mod.

I'm beginning to think that Sun ONE asp is not compatable with apache 2.x, and that was why I had it running in a prior lifetime.

Once again, thanks for your help.

p.s. Not sure about asp.net, will it allow me to run old school VB Scripts, and how difficult would it be to bolt onto apache ?

Here's the .conf

Change those \ to /, and add an ending /...

Alias /caspsamp "C:/www/Sun ONE ASP/Samples/"

You might also want to clean this up (all to /)...

LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:\Windows\System32\chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"

Morning,

My head is starting to hurt now from the number of hours that I've been banging my head against this desk.

I followed your advice, but to no avail.

Here is what the httpd.conf file looks like now;

As you can see I've commented out the lines that load the ASP module;

## Added by Sun ONE asp
#LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
#CaspLib "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp"

## Uncommented by me
#CAspDebug "5" "C:/ApachMod.log"

As this is the only way that I can get the server to start, albeit without ASP support.

As I stated in a previous post, I can install ASP over the top of the original apache httpd.conf file, but not the optimized one.

What would I need to take out of the optimized file and dump into the original http.conf file to get this all to work ?

I'm beginning to think that there might be a conflict here somewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Right,

Finally,

Some kind of resolution.

I'll post the whole httpd.conf file at the end for completeness, but it looks as if I can only have either asp OR perl running at the same time, which is a bit odd, but it's where I'm up to at the moment.

If the following lines are thus;

## Added by Sun ONE asp
#LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
#CaspLib "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp"
#CAspDebug "5" "C:/ApachMod.log"

#LoadFile "/www/perl/bin/perl58.dll"
#LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so
#PerlRequire "/www/Apache2/conf/extra.pl"

Then neither asp or perl run, and the server starts.

If the following lines are;

## Added by Sun ONE asp
LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
CaspLib "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp"
CAspDebug "5" "C:/ApachMod.log"

#LoadFile "/www/perl/bin/perl58.dll"
#LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so
#PerlRequire "/www/Apache2/conf/extra.pl"

Then asp runs, and the server starts.

If the following lines are;

## Added by Sun ONE asp
#LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
#CaspLib "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp"
#CAspDebug "5" "C:/ApachMod.log"

LoadFile "/www/perl/bin/perl58.dll"
LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so
PerlRequire "/www/Apache2/conf/extra.pl"

Then perl runs, and the server starts.

And if the lines are;

## Added by Sun ONE asp
LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
CaspLib "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp"
CAspDebug "5" "C:/ApachMod.log"

LoadFile "/www/perl/bin/perl58.dll"
LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so
PerlRequire "/www/Apache2/conf/extra.pl"

Then nothing runs and the server fails to start.

I would love some kind of explanation for this.

Do I have to choose between ASP and Perl ?

I'm sure in Apache 3.x I didn't.

Oh well, for the record, here is the whole .conf file

The order can matter sometimes.

Try putting the mod_perl stuff 1st...

Code:

LoadFile "/www/perl/bin/perl58.dll"
LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so
PerlRequire "/www/Apache2/conf/extra.pl"

LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
CaspLib "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp"
CAspDebug "5" "C:/ApachMod.log"

If that also does not work, comment out the 1st line (LoadFile). Remember to stop Apache 1st before any changes to httpd.conf

Naaahh,

That does not work either.

This has become one of those problems that has / is taking far longer than it should; and the potential time saved is being negated by all the faffing around.

I'm just going to swap the comment blocks around when I'm coding / testing.

When I'm writing Perl I'll use one httpd; when coding asp, another.

It's not perfect, but at least I can carry on working..not debugging.

Thanks for all your time spent on this, sorry that I couldn't resolve it with you.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for any further info.

Kind Regards,

Simon.

The second bit of your suggestion is kinda working..

The httpd.conf now reads..

#LoadFile "/www/perl/bin/perl58.dll"
#LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so
#PerlRequire "/www/Apache2/conf/extra.pl"

## Added by Sun ONE asp
LoadModule CAsp2AP_Module "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp/apachmod20_43.dll"
CaspLib "C:/Windows/System32/chiliasp"
#CAspDebug "5" "C:/ApachMod.log"

If I uncomment the (LoadFile) then apache starts.
If I uncomment the (LoadModule) it doesn't.

This is starting to fiddle with my head too much, and I'm giving up.

Once again thanks for all the help.

Close..but no cigar..

Simon.

If you want to code in VB Script, just run mod_aspdotnet.  I do not know much about ASP.NET or ASP in general, but it should run standard VB Script?  At least I would look into it if I where you and see if it will run your scripts. The module is just a front end to the ASP.NET engine that is provided with the .NET Framework, a MS solution -- over this 3rd party module that you are using.

Have you also checked the error log -- \www\Apache2\logs\error.log and/or "C:/ApachMod.log"?

It might be the case that this version of Sun One ASP and mod_perl 2.0.2 are not compatible. You could e-mail them or look for a solution on their site...

Thanks for the advice.

I think I'm going to investigate mod_aspdotnet, and I just noticed your new sticky topic.

As to the logs, yes I have checked them:

The apache/error log just tells me that;

"[Thu May 04 21:22:32 2006] [notice] mod_security/1.9.2 configured - Apache/2.0.55 (Win32)"

The ApachMod.log tells me a cut down version of what running;

apache -w -e debug -k start

Would tell me i.e. it returns this;

Before failing.

It MUST be a Perl / Sun ONE asp issue (conflict), as I can invoke and run either / neither without complaint.

It's just when the two modules run in parallel that problems occur.

I'm going to check out mod_aspdotnet now and if I can connect to a M$ dB and return recordsets then I'll be a happy chap.

I will then dump this exasperating experience into a portion of my brain that is rarely accessed, the same piece of brain that holds arcane pub quiz answers.

(It'll also save this laptop from being thrown out of the window and into the canal.)

Thanks for your time..

Off to mod_aspdotnet land now..

Simon.
